You may have not realized but your Kindle2 firmware should have been recently updated (late Nov’09)to help with adding pdf to kindle and the new version already support the pdf format directly, so you might not need a document converter or file converter to convert the pdf documents… if it worked then you better use this than convert pdf to kindle format and have it as mobi on kindle.
Before I get to talk about converting pdf to kindle books let me point out that Kindle pdf Capabilities added to Kindle 2.
Yes, Amazon did take a big step forward by adding significant features to Kindle book reader -
- converting pdf to kindle might not be important as PDFs work on the Kindle now.
- transferring pdf to kindle in other language is not a problem as PDFs in different languages work on the Kindle.
- You can search through a PDF. You can also circle through the results easily.
- Tables, Formulae, Charts – everything just displays well.
- The default font setting of the pdf is used which means very small text size – imagine a sheet of paper scrunched to the Kindle screen.
- The rotation feature lets you view PDFs slightly better – the text is bigger.
- You can add bookmarks and quickly go to a page or a bookmark.
The update has also made loading files and searching through a book (or pdf) noticeably faster.
It’s only half the battle though.
Kindle bookreader pdf limitations – Kindle’s pdf support is still a work in progress
There’s a significant part of the Kindle PDF feature missing and that would encourage us to use a file converter to convert pdf to kindle rather than transferring ebooks to kindle in pdf format.

There are two workarounds -
- To get over the font size problem, re-format PDFs to have larger font sizes. PDFs that have larger font sizes work well on Kindle 2, especially in landscape mode.
- Alternately, convert PDFs to Kindle format.

- Converting pdf to kindle Using Adobe Reader as a document converter. (pdf to kindle as Word format supported on Kindle):
I am using the Adobe Reader as a file converter for converting pdf to kindle and then transferring pdf to kindle. after pdf download
To add pdf to kindle Follow the following steps:
1. Download Adobe Reader. (after you are done with pdf download)
2. After pdf download, Open the pdf file in Adobe Reader.
3. Go to the Edit Menu and Select Select All option.
4. Now Right click on the text and select the Copy to Clipboard option.
5. Open your Word editor and paste it.
6. Now in here you can edit it as you wish and then save it in word format which is supported in Kindle. That wont be like sending pdf to kindle because it will not be pdf to kindle format convert or it will be a mobi on kindle… it will just be a word format file on Kindle.
Then you may use your USB drive for transferring pdf to kindle in word format the files to your Kindle. I always use my UBS to transfer text and pdf to kindle.

One of the best ways to covert pdf to kindle format is by using the Mobipocket Creator. I suggest downloading : Mobipocket Creator to convert pdf to kindle format. Open and run Calibre. On the LEFT will be your choices for set-up when you’re converting a document. Hovering over anything will usually bring a help tip.
Accepting defaults is fine. The ability to change the “meta information” is nice – so you can have names and authors as you like them. If there is no Table of Contents you can ‘force’ Calibre to create one.
At the top are choices to “Edit meta information: as well as “Convert E-books.” Follow the instructions, and then press the ‘OK’ button and the conversion will take a few minutes. I did one and moved it to the Kindle DX and it looks great.
Oh, Calibre gives you the option to optimize your converted file for the Kindle 2 or the Kindle DX.
So, yes, those million+ free Google books are fully useable on the Kindle – it just needs this added step, but it’s also great to be able to customize so much of the layout if you want. Play with the software a bit.
